Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS)

Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS)

Minimally Invasive. Highly Effective. Fast Recovery.

What is RIRS?

Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) is a modern, minimally invasive procedure used to treat kidney stones and some other kidney conditions. Using a flexible ureteroscope, your urologist enters the urinary tract through the urethra and bladder, reaching the kidney without any incisions.

Why RIRS?

RIRS is especially useful when:

  • Stones are located in hard-to-reach areas of the kidney
  • Stones are small to moderate in size (up to 2 cm)
  • Other methods (like ESWL or PCNL) are unsuitable
  • You prefer a quicker recovery and less postoperative pain
Advantages of RIRS
  • No incisions or external cuts
  • Less pain and faster recovery
  • Precise treatment with minimal risk
  • Suitable for high-risk or elderly patients
Aftercare Tips
  • Stay hydrated to flush the urinary system
  • Take prescribed antibiotics or pain meds as directed
  • Avoid strenuous activity for a few days
  • Follow up for stent removal (if placed)
  • Monitor for signs of fever, pain, or difficulty urinating
Is RIRS Right for You?

Your urologist will assess your:

  • Stone size and location
  • Kidney anatomy
  • Overall health
  • History of previous stone treatments
